Move your body, move your mind

developing
mental skills through board, field, sports and ICTgames

OBJECTIVES
„Move your body, move your mind – developing mental skills through board, field, sports and ICT games” is a promotion of various types of games. Games are an interesting form of work with children that gives a lot of joy to participants and develops their mental and physical skills. In addition, games are a great way to integrate the class team. During the project, games of different types will be presented, which are used to learn English, mathematics, history, geography and other school subjects. This project is a good way to develop competences by both students and teachers. The goals that we want to achieve through the use of games in the educational process are to the level of key competences and skills. Thus, for young people, the following will be important communication in a mother tongue and a foreign language, mathematical and IT competences ability to learn will also be necessary. Children will use these skills to describe and create games, getting educated from the rich cultural heritage of their own country and partner countries. We will create a book of games that will be disseminated by project participants. Games can be a powerful social inclusion tool and that is our next goal. Students will interact with each other not only during lessons but also during programming coding, sports or board games, as well as on breaks ("active breaks") and at family festivals tournaments. Different types of games will give students the opportunity to gain experience in effective team cooperation. Teachers, to cooperate effectively, will be obliged and motivated to raise their competences in the field of English as well as information and communication technology.

Promoting physical activity, sporting children, popularizing sport are very important and effective elements of the process of education and upbringing of the young generation. One of the additional forms that enrich the range of activities and motor skills of children are extracurricular and extracurricular sports activities.

The program "Athletics for everyone! "( 2020/2021 )- additional sports activities for classes IV - VII These are activities that bring children a lot of joy, give satisfaction from physical activity, competition with peers and acquiring new skills.

"I can swim" - Program for general swimming lessons This is a proposal of additional sports activities for students of grades 1-3 of primary schools throughout the country.
Students of SP Bełdów implement this program at the "Olympic" swimming in Aleksandrów Łódzki

Swimming is perceived as the most versatile and safe sport, perfectly affecting human fitness, contributing to increasing the overall efficiency of the body. Little swimmers have better motor coordination, are more fit, show more courage. Water exercises and swimming are also one of the most effective ways to prevent and correct posture defects.

Karate is not only sports classes. Trainings also teach classic values, so important in raising children: discipline, respect, diligence, control of emotions. It also increases self-confidence and self-esteem.
Through systematic training, children prepare for exams for the next levels of initiation, reaching the next level they acquire the ability to achieve their goals as well as set themselves new challenges, which also engages them into learning and life in the later period.

Board games are one of the popular forms of entertainment. They are a great way to spend free time, an alternative to television, computers, smartphones. They not only entertain, but also develop imagination, teach prediction, decision-making, fair play and proper functioning in a group. Chess is the most famous. Each country has its favourites. There are plenty of board games you can buy in the shop, but the kids are happy to make their own games. Board games are used during lessons (learning to play chess), but mainly children play them during breaks or after lessons (during club classes). On October 10, we celebrate an unusual holiday - Board Games Day. On this occasion, children could bring their games to school. A Board Games Tournament and a Chess Tournament were organised. We encouraged children to involve their parents and siblings in playing board games  at home.

ICT tools can be used regardless of the subject taught. They allow to bring out the creativity of students, while contributing to building in them a sense of responsibility for learning. In our schools, children start their adventure with coding from an early age. Programming develops creativity and logical thinking. During a pandemic, it is also a big plus that you can learn from home and what is important especially for children - combine learning with fun. Programming classes contribute to the development of logical and analytical thinking. They have a good effect on the exercise of imagination, as well as independent coping with problems. A lot of time was devoted to coding and programming on the occasion of Code Week, which was organized in our schools. On this occasion, students visited preschoolers and taught programming in the Scratch Jr program, together they created simple animations. Others used the WeDo program and Lego bricks, Ozobots, Mbots, Blubots and Beebots. Teachers use more and more programs and applications in their work, which is especially helpful in online work. In order to enrich their work and skills, they also had many trainings.

Break time at school is definitely one of the most important period pupils are waiting for. They can refresh themselves and feel relaxed after their work. It’s a great opportunity for energy release and physical exercise, socializing with peers and having fun.
During the break times in our school students engage in different kind of activities. Some of them walk or sit in different corners of the ground and discuss their favorite topics, some of them make use of the time to copy homework from others’ notebook and some of them are actively involved in different kind of games. These depend on the weather conditions.
On warm and sunny days students have access to outdoor areas. They can go outside and spend their free time on the playground.  They usually do some team sports such as volleyball, basketball or football. Younger children make use of   slides and swings. Some children just skip the rope.
On rainy days and at other times when the pupils can’t go outside they spend time on indoor games. Older pupils like playing table tennis. Younger children play “What’s the time Mr Wolf”, “Freeze tag”, “Hide and seek” , “Hopscotch” or table football.
Mr Wolf – to play the game we just need enough clear space in the play area so that the children run around safely. One player is the wolf and stands at the opposite end of the space to the other players. The players call out “what’s the time Mr Wolf?” who answers with the number of their choosing. Players can then advance that number of steps towards the wolf, for example - it’s 7  o’clock, they move forward seven steps. When the wolf decides the other players are close enough, they answer ”dinner time” and must tag on the other players before they reach the starting point. If Mr Wolf tags a player, that player becomes the new Mr Wolf.
Freeze tag – One person is “it” and must run around tagging the other players. Once tagged, a player must freeze in place until an untagged runner frees them. If the “it” player successfully freezes all the runners the game needs to be reset.
Hide and seek – The game is played by one chosen player counting to a predetermined number with eyes closed while the other players hide. The player has to locate all the other players. The player found last is the winner.
Hopscotch – players take turns to throw the bean bag or some other item onto the grid of the hopscotch diagram and then must hop their way through the course, skipping the square that the bag landed on. The first player to complete one course for every numbered square on the court wins the game.
Table football – it is a table –top game based on football. It’s aim is to move the ball into the opponent’s goal by manipulating rods which have figures attached.

Physical fitness, abilities and interests, sports talents, health condition affect the offer of sports activities offered to students by the teacher. The variety of classes and commitment give students a chance to test themselves in sports competitions, which are usually several during the school year. Students of partner schools took part in football, table tennis and quadrathlon competitions

The desire to play in a group, spend time with friends and also in nature is a great idea to make school activities more attractive. An opportunity to have great fun and learn at the same time is the game Hare and hounds. Find and solve all the tasks left by the first group (sports, math, art, etc.)The escaping team wins when the tasks are not solved. The pursuit team wins when they catch the team escaping before reaching the specified objective.
Another proposal is Questing - a form of educational outdoor game. It consists of walking along an unmarked tourist trail, which, using rhymes and numerous puzzles, guides you to unique, but often forgotten places. The goal of the adventure is to discover a hidden treasure, and thus learn about the heritage of the place, its forgotten legends, tales and history. The quest about Bełdów was developed by students under the watchful eye of teachers.
A bicycle trip is not only a physical activity, but an opportunity to get to know the nearest area - the natural and historical environment or to perform mathematical operations in practice.

Most of children are physically active, are interested in sports and like to participate in or watch sports events. Students from partner schools prepared presentations about their favourite sports disciplines, e.g. about sports gymnastics, ski jumping or football. Due to the pandemic, the shows took place online.
Children from the Polish school hosted representatives of the Widzew Łódź football team in their facility. The children prepared many banners and posters. There were also stadium songs, and many of the students had gadgets from Widzew. During the meeting, the players answered many questions, checked the knowledge of the gathered kids and distributed two hundred lesson plans. At the end, an exhibition match was organized, in which Widzew footballers played the role of captains. At the end of the visit, the school received 50 free tickets to the Widzew match at the Łódź stadium.

The first meeting of teachers participating in the project.

After a wonderful welcome, it was time for the first conversations, getting to know each other.      The Drama School teacher showed us around the charming town, told us about its history and traditions. The main purpose of the visit to the Greek partner was to choose the project logo from the proposals of individual schools, learn about education systems, teachers' working methods (especially with the use of ICT), plan the dates of meetings in individual countries and specific activities, as well as exchange experiences and promote the project. All this intertwined with a festive atmosphere, delicious food, dancing and history in the background.

Short-term student exchange
February 17 - 21, 2020
Students and teachers came to Gravina in Puglia invited by the Italian partner. It was the first meeting of the children participating in the project. The students stayed with Italian families with whom they spent a lot of time. The stay in Gravina was full of many attractions. The participants got to know this charming city - its interesting places, traditions, cuisine. They were at school every day to participate in various activities. The main purpose of this meeting was the presentation of games and plays by each of the partners, and then having fun together. As a result, everyone got to know some interesting games and activities. Italian students showed their classes, their school life. The guests told about themselves, their interests and their schools. There were also sightseeing trips to places with an interesting history. Teachers exchanged experiences, observations and made further arrangements regarding the project. It was a very effective and pleasant time. Everyone improved their communication and social skills. It's a pity that a pandemic was waiting on the doorstep that locked us at home.

Virtual mobility
February 21-25, 2022

Virtual mobility from Italy, Poland, Romania and Greece of the Erasmus+ project "Move your body, move your mind - development of mental skills through board, outdoor, sports and ICT games" took place in the Šilalė district. The host was Pajūris Stanislaus Biržiškis Gymnasium. It's a pity that the partners decided not to come due to the pandemic situation, but we are happy about the successful and productive project week that took place. The meeting began with the presentation of schools and student teams from each country, a ceremonial concert and the welcome of the headmaster of the middle school. All project activities took place in accordance with the agreed program. Students from grades 5-7 participated in the project. The participants of the project presented table and sports games popular in their country. Mental abilities were developed by participants from all countries by solving puzzles, and since the project is related to sports, we also asked participants to move. To the sounds of music, we learned aerobic movements, which were then danced by practically all participants of the project. Students also presented how actively and actively they spend their breaks in their schools. Although the meeting took place remotely, we managed to organize an international gaming tournament. The project participants were presented with games and their descriptions. The students had to film these games, relays, record the results and show the material to the participants of the project. It was a very fun experience for everyone. In addition to project classes, the participants of the meeting had the opportunity to virtually travel around our capital, Vilnius, the Šilalė region and get to know the Lithuanian landscape and famous places. On the last day of the project, we celebrated the completed activities, results, students' activity, project community and said goodbye to the next meeting of partners, which will be held in Romania.
